Why? That’s a Complicated Question
So I’ve seen this question asked more than once over the years, not only on my videos, but some friends as well. Of course, I get this question asked when I have a video with mostly Asians in it.
Growing up, I faced racism every so often just like most Asian kids who grew up in predominately white neighborhoods. Yep, it made me angry and I wanted to kill them, but I don’t think I wanted to kill an entire race because of it.
Through my life experiences, I’ve learned that we live in a “white society”. You all probably know that already since you’re all intelligent people. #MusicForSmartPeople. When we see TV shows here in America, we see white people. When we see commercials, we see white people. Movies, white people. When I go to Asia, there are more white people on billboards than Asians. It’s all white people. Who cares? I don’t. I honestly don’t give a rats ass if I see a white person on TV. I’m used to it. There is nothing out of the ordinary about it.
When I see an Asian dude on TV, I look a little closer and I’m like, “interesting”. Either that, or I’m confused as to why there is an Asian on TV. It does something to my mind. It’s not always the same reaction, but it sure does make me feel different.
That’s media for ya. That’s why media is separated - by race. Sometimes there are sprinkles of variety. It seems to me that entertainment is getting more colorful. At least here in America. That’s great.
I believe that we are all born racists and we all still are to a certain degree.
Wow, that’s a strong statement to make David Choi.
If you’ve ever said or laughed at a racist joke (even in your mind), then step over here.
Thanks.
Also, look up the black doll/white doll study.
Groups of people hang out with certain groups of people because we look the same. That’s the first thing. Second, is because personalities work together and there are common interests.
It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone why whites tend to stick with whites, blacks with blacks, Hispanics with Hispanics, and Asians with Asians.
Now there are those who do have a rainbow color of friends. I think these people are very special people who have opened themselves to experiences beyond what they have already experienced in their lives. Maybe they got a taste of another culture somehow, or maybe they grew up surrounded by all sorts of people. Maybe they like people.
Either way, whatever their stories may be, they have open minds and are willing to experience the good and bad. It makes life interesting. A part of me believes it takes a little more effort to become friends with another race because some people are insecure and/or scared. Maybe preconceived opinions.
Now me, I have all kinds of friends. Today, I hung out with my white friend. These days, I hang out with Asians. Growing up, I only hung out with white people. We still talk.
Let me tell you something though, I’ve learned that even though we all think negative things even subconsciously about different races, it’s in all of our best interests to fight whatever negative comes to your mind and try your damn hardest to embrace the beauty in each culture. Especially their food.
Damn. I love food.
I love the people who make it.
We need the people to make it.
We need food.
We need people.
Let’s get along and eat.
