What is a Fan?
Thoughts from this side:
Interviewers ask me from time to time: “How does it feel to be famous?”
First off, I don’t feel like I’m some sort of a celebrity, nor will I ever “feel” that way. Imagine you (the reader) puts up a video of yourself being “you” on YouTube and it explodes overnight for whatever reason. Now answer the question - how does it feel to be famous? Let it sink in…exactly. You feel like you’re the same person from the day before. I will always feel and behave like me. No better or worse than anyone else.
Now that I got that out of the way, once in a while, a “fan” or someone will recognize me on the street, in a restaurant, at a store, or etc. Sometimes, situations like such will occur.
Sarah: OMG my friend Jennifer is a such a big fan of yours, can she take a picture with you? (drags her friend to me)
Jennifer: Heyyyyy…I’m not like a fan…I don’t stalk you and like watch your videos every single day…my friends crazy…I’m not like a super fan or anything…
I understand that the word fan has a negative connotation. I totally get it. You don’t want to seem “uncool” or “less” than whoever you’re talking to (in this case me). You don’t want to seem like you’re being “creepy” or “too much”. The truth is, I never think that.
It’s completely unnecessary to state that you’re not a huge fan. I feel some people try way too hard to not sound like a fan. By the way, my definition of the word fan is not the same as the person coming up to me. I think some people have the notion that I’ll think that they’re not as “cool” if they watch my videos or they’re losers - even if it’s everyday. Who cares if you watch my videos all the time? Who cares if you listen to my music? Who cares how old you are, or if you’re a girl or a dude? Trust me, I’m not judging you. If you’re friends are, !$% them.
It actually doesn’t matter whether you call yourself a fan or not.
The thing that really matters is that my music connects with you or made a positive impact in your life.
So what is a fan to me?
A person who has an interest or respects someone. Simple as that.
So if you ever see me, come say hi and I promise I won’t judge you. I’m a normal dude! :)
